Martha Ellis
Salt Lake City Fire Department
Martha has been in the fire service for over 13 years and
currently holds the rank of Captain for Salt Lake City
FD. In addition
to currently working as the Salt Lake Department of
Airports Fire Marshal, she's also works as a
Certified Fitness Coordinator.
Martha is the 5 time Women's World Champion, Firefighter
Combat Challenge. She held the Women's World
Record for 8 consecutive years. She is the Fitness
Editor for Fire Rescue Magazine, as well. Look for

Captain Jeff Ellis
Murray City Fire Department
Jeff works as a Captain for Murray City FD.
He has 22 years of service with Murray and has been instrumental in developing
the department's fitness program. He continues to provide services as
a Certified Fitness Coordinator for department members.
Jeff is the two time over all
World Champion and two time over 40 World Champion at
the Firefighter Combat Challenge. He is the only
individual to ever win the over all and the over 40 in
the same year. His over 40 world record run, set in
1997 was the longest standing record in Combat Challenge
history, at 6 years.

Thomas Armeli, M.S., CHFI
Mr. Armeli has more than 28 years of experience
developing, designing and evaluating training programs
in the public and private sectors. He is certified by
the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health and
Fitness Instructor. As
HMI’s
Senior Field Analyst, he is
responsible for coordinating all training programs and
assists in designing and delivering a job tasks analysis
projects. He has assisted in developing, designing and
validating job-related physical ability tests for over
40 clients including commercial businesses, fire and
police departments, and federal security services
nation-wide.
He is responsible for curriculum
development, marketing and instruction for HMI’s
Certified Fitness Coordinator Workshop©, a program that
trains individuals to develop, execute and manage
organization-level fitness programs. He is also the
project lead for maintaining and enhancing HMI’s
state-of-the-art physical fitness assessment and
exercise prescription software package, FitScan®.
A retired ArmyOfficer, while he was on
active duty Mr. Armeli was responsible for developing,
managing and evaluating numerous unit-level fitness
programs for units ranging in size from 30 to 500
personnel. Mr. Armeli possesses a B.S. in engineering
from the United States Military Academy, holds an M. S.
in electrical engineering from the University of
California, Berkeley and is a 1992 graduate of the US
Army War College. Additionally, he holds a certification
from the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health
& Fitness Instructor.

Ann Grediagin, Ph.D., R.D.
Dr.
Grediagin received a B.S. degree in Nutrition from
Oregon State University in 1983, an M.S. in Sports
Nutrition from Georgia State University in 1992 and her
doctorate in Sports Nutrition from Oregon State
University in 2000. She has served as the Chief of the
Nutrition Care Division of several large metropolitan
hospitals, a staff dietitian for a major medical group
and has advised the US and Canadian Forest Services on
the nutritional needs of wild land firefighters.
Dr.
Grediagin has an ongoing consultation relationship with
the US Army’s Center for Health Promotion and
Preventative Medicine where she provides advice on the
Army’s nutritional policy. Additionally, she has made
numerous presentations on nutrition and its effect on
human performance.
Actively engaged in sports nutrition and physiology
research, Dr. Grediagin is senior technical advisor to
Health Metrics, Inc. in the area of applied nutrition
science and contributes her expertise to both our
Certified Fitness Coordinator program and related
corporate publications.
